Boomer's vineyard science

Today Boomer was super stoked to get the opportunity to visit a vineyard. A vineyard is a place where grape juice is made.  Making grape juice is a long and complicated process that involves lots and lots of science! Boomer loves science and is ready to help explain some of the scientific processes to you!

In this picture Boomer is hanging out in a grapevine.  These vines are unique because they grow special grapes to make grape juice and are carefully groomed by the workers at the vineyard.  The workers cut off any branches that aren't part of the main stem, which helps the grapes get extra tasty.
They also make sure that when the plant grows too tall, it grows within the bounds of wires stretched between two poles.  These wires that guide the plants growth are called "guide wires."

Do you know what part of the plant Boomer is standing on?
Here's a harder one, what life stage is the plant Boomer is standing on in?

After Boomer walked around the vineyard, he got a chance to taste the different grape juices made there. They were so so yummy!!! While walking around he learned a little about the process that makes the grape juice taste so good. The grapes start in a big concrete room and go through a process called fermentation. Do you know what that is? After several months of fermentation and some squishing (to get rid of the grape skin) we get grape juice! This is then bottled or stored in oak barrels to make extra special grape juice.

After drinking as much grape juice as our bellies could hold, Boomer and I decided that this park bench was a fantastic place to take a quick nap.  Unfortunately for us, we didn't think about being under the warm Tuscan sun, or the fact that we hadn't had much water to drink (on account of all the grape juice) so we woke up very dehydrated. We also had bad breath from all the sugar in the grape juice so we needed to brush our teeth!

Do you know it means to be dehydrated?
Do you know why we need to keep our teeth healthy?
